Strength and endurance training for youth has become very popular lately as many are trying to gain an athletic advantage, but is it safe? Well, the answer seems to a resounding YES, if proper precautions are  taken. The results of a literature review on the subject have determined children can safely improve their strength by 30% to 50% after just 8-12 weeks of a well designed strength training program at 2-3 times per  week. The main cause for injuries were poor supervision, lack of knowledge from the health  professional, improper technique, and misuse of equipment. Remember, all youth should have a physical and clearance from their physician before starting any official strengthening program.
