Benefits of getting the floor

Inspirational 80 + year olds get down on the floor daily to do their exercises! When we are younger, floor transfers are easy and often taken for granted. However, as we age, getting up and down off the floor can be very challenging or sometimes, not even possible.

As a Physical Therapist, I implore all my over 60-year-old clients to try and get down on the floor to do their exercises daily. Why? Floor transfers require balance, coordination, strength, range of motion, and flexibility. It is a quick indication of how well our physical bodies are doing. We all know people who cannot get up and down from the floor without help and what is their overall health like? I understand for some people floor transfers are not possible, but I think we can try to “hang on” to that skill for as long as possible. In this video, I highlight 2 of my rockstar clients in their 80s that are doing amazingly well!
